On being an artist and a mom:

What are the exact requirements necessary to call myself an artist and am I meeting them? In the eyes of many, probably having a baby completely disqualifies me, but I'm refusing to give that nonsense any of my brain-space. I guess sort of "zooming out" to realize how small we all are and "zooming in" to focus on who it is I actually want to show my work to or have a conversation with is helpful.

I can usually calm myself down when I think that life is short AND life is long. Now, what keeps me convinced that I should still be an artist is that I want my kids to grow up understanding that it's important to have a space to work through ideas, reflect, play, wander around, and solve problems small and big.
