On Being an Artist and a Mom

I had to complete work for a show that opened when my son was 8 weeks old. In some ways I regret being so busy with art when he was so young. The cliche is true, they grow up so fast, and I wish I could have soaked those first few months in a little better, without the pressure of making.

Currently every other week I have one full day of studio while my child is in day care. I also take a night art class, that I consider scheduled non-negotiable studio time.

I am much more focused now. Because I have less time I use it more wisely. If I don’t fully enjoy the process of making something, I just won’t do it.
