Shelter in Place Artist Mothers Work: A Collection of Works from the First Six Months of the Coronavirus Pandemic
Compiled by Tulika Ladsariya and Angela Lopez
This is a collection of artist mothers' stories from the first six months of the coronavirus pandemic shelter-in-place period. This quick publication was conceived as a way to connect artist mothers in a time when connection is so difficult.
Being a mother can be isolating in and of itself, but the pandemic heightened that isolation and highlighted the challenges that mothers face. Some of these challenges include, a lack of support for childcare, unrealistic and contradictory expectations, isolation, and discrimination in the form of unequal pay and fewer opportunities across various fields. The pandemic has made the disparities in the work of women, and in particular mothers, more apparent.
