Biography:

Jessica Labatte’s work investigates the materiality of photography through light, color, illusion, and paradoxes inherent in photographic representation. Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL; Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, FL; Aperture Foundation, NYC, NY; Silver Eye Center for Photography, Pittsburgh, PA; Elmhurst Art Museum, Elmhurst, IL; South Bend Museum of Art, South Bend, IN; IMOCA, Indianapolis, IN; Higher Pictures, NYC, NY; and Western Exhibitions, Chicago, IL. She was artist-in-residence at Light Work, Ox-Bow, and Latitude. Her work has been featured and reviewed in publications such as The New York Times, The New Yorker, Artforum.com, Chicago Magazine, and the Chicago Tribune. She is Assistant Professor of Art and Photography Area Coordinator at Northern Illinois University. She holds a BFA and MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work is represented by Western Exhibitions, Chicago, IL.
